Saturday 4 May 2019 - Military Rifle Competition
Many members of ITSC club own old military service rifles and to test these rifles and the shooters ability, Tony Humphris devised a course of fire based on a combination of 4 static targets and 4 turning targets using military style targets.
The Eligibility for this competition was for any military centrefire rifle that had been or is being used by any countries armed forces/services. The Minor constraint was a Straight pull rifle .223” (5.56mm) calibre rifle with “Contemporary” sights; whereas the major was any bolt action rifle with a calibre larger than the Minor, in which Sights were to be “Iron/Open Sights”.
Targets were set at the 25-metre point with shooters firing from a position just forward of the standard benches. Four shooting positions (Standing, Kneeling, Sitting and Prone) were employed on the static targets and two positions (Standing and Kneeling) on the turning targets. Tony for the May competition was using smaller targets than previously set by Barry, specifically to challenge the shooters accuracy and his marking was going to be mean!
A total of 8 members turned up on the day to participate in these very exciting, intense and very competitive competition. Daryll, smiled on hearing the news that David would not be attending because of University commitments.
THE RESULTS
The weather was good to start with and by the end we were in the mists of a hail storm and high winds and dark skies. Luckily everybody helped to set-up and pack away and we all stood in the range watching the storm and thinking to ourselves is it really May 04th ? The picture below shows the gallant 8.
MAJOR COMPETITION
The overall Major competition winner was Tim G with a score of 54 points. Second was Daryll B with a score of 52 just 2 points behind and third was Allen P with a score of 48. This was a very close competition and eagerly fought for the 3 top positions. Full results are shown in the table below.

Everybody said that they had a fantastic time and were looking forward to the next Military competition either at the ITSC range or at the Thetford or Bisley ranges at greater distances.
Finally, I would like to say a BIG thank-you to Malcolm R (30) who came along to the range to give support to the gallant 8 and to take some great pictures of the day of which many I have used some in this document. Thanks for all at the range on the day and the committee for your support and time.
The next competition scheduled at the ITSC range will be a Pistol and Lever action competitions in June 2019 and is called “The Wild West Shoot-out”. This will be using Static targets, Steel plates and Turning targets and Shooting target tactical Mannequins. This competition will be based on “TIME” with some interesting twists, so watch your e-mails and the web-site for more details.
